Earlier this week, Barcelona unveiled their away kit for the 2022-23 season.
Like the home shirt, it takes inspiration from the 1992 Olympics, with an all-over gold design that pays tribute to the medals won during the tournament, and is finished with a raised pattern inspired by a map of the city.
Whereas Barcelona’s home shirts have tended to stick to a formula – the Blaugrana colours have been a constant, even if the direction, size or shape of the stripes hasn’t – away kits have allowed the club to experiment.
To celebrate the latest design, we pulled together 10 of their best-ever away shirts.

Barcelona replicated the stripes from their home kit for this year’s away shirt, designing it with tonal light and dark blue horizontal stripes. The shirt was finished with pops of highlighter yellow and celebratory detailing around the club crest. Marking 50 years of the Camp Nou, a special laurel wreath surrounded the logo.

When Barcelona stepped out at Wembley in May 1992, it was to be the last game they wore a kit designed by homegrown brand Meyba. The shirt in question – bright orange with a repeated Meyba logo and two blue and red lines – will forever be remembered for that match as Barcelona, powered by Koeman, Laudrup and a baby-faced Guardiola, beat Sampdoria to win the European Cup for the first time.

The 2003/04 away shirt incorporated the classic blue and red of Barcelona in a new direction, with horizontal pinstripes running across the grey shirt. While this shirt is a standalone design classic, it’s probably best associated with that toe-pointed moment of genius from Ronaldinho at Stamford Bridge in 2005, although by that point it was serving as the club’s third kit

The newest addition to Barcelona’s away kits is also one of its best. The all gold colour is a nod to the 1992 Olympics, while the graphic across the shirt is a celebration of Barcelona and, in particular, the areas of Eixample, Montjuic and Barceloneta. As well as the Olympic theme – which also includes detailing in the colours of the Olympic rings – the shirt is a celebration of the success of Barcelona’s women’s team.
